ABOUT ABOUT

A Saturday with Frank Hyman

At 10:00 a.m. – Hentopia

Frank’s wife says that they spend less time on chicken chores than they spend cooking eggs. The editor of Chickens magazine says "Frank is the zen master of poultry." In this presentation learn how to easily manage the feed, water, poop, eggs and other hen issues in a way that allows you to safely take two-week vacations (without a chicken-sitter). Your birds and their hen habitat can happily and safely operate on autopilot while you’re away. Class is a slideshow with a demo of  DIY self-filling waterer and a vending machine feeder.

At 2:00 p.m. – Not Tonight Deer

Edible gardens are all the rage, but we don't want the deer to do all the eating. Fortunately, a lot of plants have evolved with little tricks to make themselves unappealing to deer. There's no need to memorize some long list of deer-resistant plants while shopping at a garden center. Knowing these plant characteristics will help you create an attractive garden without creating a soup kitchen for these long-legged browsers.  The talk will also cover deer fencing and deer repellants.
